All About Thread Count & How to Buy Good Sheets
Thread count (TC), is certainly a buzz word for many!
The number 1 question we get is what is your highest thread count sheet. It is quite crucial for us to explain a few facts. The most important thing about thread count is that it is only one of three components of what makes up a good sheet. The myth that the higher the thread count the better the sheet is absolutely not the case. There are 3 components that make up a good sheet.
First is, where is the cotton from, Egypt grows the best cotton, the staple are long, there are thicker, they can be combed and by this softer. So if the cotton is Egyptian is going to be the best type of cotton.
The second component is where is the fabric woven. It can be woven in Asia or it can be woven in Italy. Italians have a tradition in weaving that is centuries old. From what we know about fashion world, I think it is pretty well known that Italians weave beautiful quality fabrics. As they were doing this much longer than others, they are the premier weavers of the world. So when you combine Egyptian cotton with Italian weaving already you beginning to get a sheet that is magnificent, long lasting and softer over time. At that point I would like to highlight that thread count is rather a preference, the higher the thread count, the softer it gets, but there is a lot of people, who can easily have 1000, but some just love Italian 300TC, its crispness and density.
Thread count being high or low is a matter of choice. The only moment when thread count counts is when you get below 200TC, you don’t wanna go below 200!
So once you have Egyptian cotton woven in Italy, the very best. From there you choose your favorite thread count. But don’t get confused the highest thread count in the world is not necessarily the best. You can have a 1000 thread count that might be woven in Pakistan and not Egyptian cotton or Egyptian cotton woven in Pakistan, it will not hold up the way 200 thread count Italian weave will. Don’t go higher than 600TC, anything over 600TC is likely to uncomfortably trap body heat.
That is the most important thing when it comes to choose good bed linen. Always look for Egyptian cotton, where it is woven and then choose your favorite thread count. Touch it!
What you are looking for is something that softness over time. So if you buy premium quality bed linen, even after a few years it will get even softer! That is the beauty of investing in authentic quality sheets!
